each member of cloud boat (recently released an ep on R&S) has put together a mixtape for yourstruly, and the results are amazing. they remind me of a certain balam acab mixtape i found last year - no “look how current i am” selection bullshit, they’re just mixtapes FROM THE HEART U KNOW. i think it’s incredibly valuable to be able to have insight into someone’s musical past and broader taste/influences this way. in the case of both that balam acab mix and these ones, i’ve ended up liking the artists infinitely more after.

the mixtape series is called “other people’s poetry” and here’s what YT has to say about it in the introduction to their inaugural tape, which was by teen daze:

a well-made mixtape can communicate almost anything: I’m sorry, I love you, I miss you, I want you back, I want out, I’ll never forget, remember when, and on and on and on.The best compilations are those composed with a specific recipient in mind. Someone to sing over the oldies, dance to the hits, laugh at the inside jokes, and wonder how many -if not every- song is really all about them.

such a coincidence that these should appear today - i started making a “fuck you november” mixtape last night that evolved into a more pleasant combination of some new & old favourites to help cope while i’m locked in studying. these mixes are going to ease the exam-season pain immensely. hopefully you’re all surviving! x
